Insert cells in Excel shortcut (Ctrl + +)

Learn how to insert cells in Excel. If inserting columns or rows would affect the overall design of the sheet, insert cells instead of columns or rows. You can insert cells more easily by using shortcut keys instead of the mouse or right-clicking. Try this method if you want to insert a new cell in the middle of a table you have already created.

Insert cells shortcut

Windows
With numeric keypad: Ctrl + + (plus)
Without numeric keypad: Ctrl + Shift + + (plus)
Access Key: Alt + H + I + I

Mac
With numeric keypad: command + + (plus) or control + + (plus)
Without numeric keypad: command + shift + + (plus) or control + shift + + (plus)

Insert cells on top

You can use the shortcut key to insert new cells on top of cell.

Select a cell

Select the cell where you want to insert the cell.

Select the cell where you want to insert the new cell

Select all cells with shift key

Press Shift + (Right Arrow key) to select all the cells where you want to insert new cells. Press Ctrl + Shift + + (plus) or Alt + H + I + I.

Dialog box will appear

Select any option

The Insert dialog box will appear. Use the (Down Arrow key) to select the Shift cells down, and press Enter.

Cell insertion is complete

Insert cells to the left side

Select a cell

Select the cell where you want to insert the cell.

Select all cells with shift key

Press Shift + (Down Arrow key) to select all the cells where you want to insert new cells.

Press Ctrl + Shift + + (plus) or Alt + H +& I + I.

Select any option

The Insert dialog box will appear. Select the Shift cells right, and press Enter.

Cells will be inserted
