Select row in Excel shortcut

Excel provides a variety of shortcut keys for selecting rows. There are shortcuts to expand the selection by selecting cells left or right, and shortcuts to expand the selection to the beginning or end of a row. By using these shortcuts, you will be able to select rows more smoothly. The method presented here is useful if you want to select rows without going outside the data range.

Shortcut for selecting a row

Expand the selection by one cell to the left or right

Shift + (Left Arrow key) or Shift + (Right Arrow key)

shift + (Left Arrow key) or shift + (Right Arrow key)

Extend selection to start of row

Windows
Shift + Home or Ctrl + Shift + (Left Arrow key)

Mac
With numeric keypad: shift + home
Without numeric keypad: command + shift + (Left Arrow key) or control + shift + (Left Arrow key)

Extend selection to end of row

Windows
Ctrl + Shift + (Right Arrow key)

Mac
command + shift + (Right Arrow key) or control + shift + (Right Arrow key)

Press Shift + Home or Ctrl + Shift + (Left Arrow key). The selection is now extended to the beginning of the row.

Select a cell

Select the beginning of the row you want to select.

Can now be extended to the end of the row

Press Ctrl + Shift + (Right Arrow key). Can now be extended to the end of the row.
